I KNOW ALL ABOUT, 'BOUT YOUR REPUTATION AND HOW IT'S BOUND TO BE A HEARTBREAK SITUATION
BUT I CAN'T HELP IT IF I'M HELPLESS EVERYTIME THAT I'M WHERE YOU ARE
YOU WALK IN AND MY STRENGTH WALKS OUT THE DOOR
SAY MY NAME AND I CAN'T FIGHT ANYMORE
OH I KNOW I SHOULD GO BUT I NEED YOUR TOUCH JUST TOO DAMN MUCH

The light mist that was falling was threatening to become a major downpour at any minute. She was standing in a doorway, trying to stay as dry as possible, and to keep hidden at the same time. Everyone thought she had left earlier, when she claimed a headache was making it impossible to deal with the perpetual motion that was Jeff Hardy. Yet she had other reasons for wanting them to think she was gone.

LOVING YOU ISN'T REALLY SOMETHING I SHOULD DO
SHOULDN'T WANNA SPEND MY TIME WITH YOU, I SHOULD TRY TO BE STRONG
BUT BABY, YOU'RE THE RIGHT KIND OF WRONG
BABY YOU'RE THE RIGHT KIND OF WRONG

She stood far back inside the doorway as the wrestlers filed out of the arena, some alone and others in small groups and pairs. She counted them off in her head as they left. She knew that only three people remained inside. At that moment, the door she was watching flew open and Mark came barreling out in his usual style. He was talking rather loudly. She couldn't see who was with him, but she hoped that it wasn't the one she was waiting for. She breathed a sigh of relief when she heard Hogan ask Mark if he could have a ride back to the hotel. They climbed into Mark's car and pulled out of the parking space. When she was sure they were gone, she stepped out of her hiding place and walked to the only car remaining in the lot.

MIGHT BE A MISTAKE, A MISTAKE I'M MAKING BUT WHAT YOU'RE GIVING I AM HAPPY TO BE TAKING
'CUZ NO ONE'S EVER MADE ME FEEL THE WAY I FEEL WHEN I'M IN YOUR ARMS
THEY SAY YOU'RE SOMETHING I SHOULD DO WITHOUT
THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT GOES ON WHEN THE LIGHTS GO OUT
THERE'S NO WAY TO EXPLAIN ALL THE PLEASURE IS WORTH ALL THE PAIN

She waited for what seemed like hours. Finally, the door opened one last time. The light cascaded behind him, causing his tall body to cast a very long shadow on the parking lot. He moved slowly, the weariness showing in his walk. But, she knew it wasn't just the aches and pains of his match - it was years of hard living put behind him now, a body adjusting to a new regime. He stopped and hitched his bag back up on his shoulder, as he reached into his pocket for the car keys.

Approaching the car, he saw someone standing there, leaning against the door. A smile crept across his face. When he reached the Jeep, he looked down at her. "What are you doing here?" he asked, unlocking the back to toss his bag inside. "Waiting for you," she replied, never moving. He closed the back of the Jeep and walked around to the passenger side where she stood. "I thought you left," he said. "I wanted everyone to think that," she said. He leaned against the door, looking down at her. "I'm glad you're here," he said, leaning down and kissing her gently.

She leaned into him, rubbing her hands up and down his back. "I've missed you," she whispered when he broke the kiss. He smiled at her, his eyes twinkling in the lights of the parking lot. "I missed you too, Angel." He leaned down and kissed the tip of her nose. "Let's get outta here," he said, opening the door. She climbed into the passenger seat and he closed the door. She watched him as he walked around to the other side and got in as well. "Where to?" he asked her as he started the Jeep and pulled out of the space. "I got a room at the Motel 6 down the road," she said, placing her hand on his thigh. She loved doing that - feeling the muscles tense and relax as he worked the gas pedal. For as long as she could remember, this was her favorite part of riding in the car with him.

I SHOULD TRY TO RUN BUT I JUST CAN'T SEEM TO
'CUZ EVERY TIME I RUN YOU'RE THE ONE I RUN TO
I CAN'T DO WITHOUT WHAT YOU DO TO ME - I DON'T CARE IF I'M IN TOO DEEP

They drove silently. It was always that way with them. Few words were needed. After 15 years, there was still heat, passion, and the comfort that can only come from knowing each other so well. He pulled into the parking lot and she told him which room. He parked in front of the building and jumped out. He walked around and opened her door. Bowing in front of her, he extended his hand to help her from the Jeep. She laughed, a deep throaty sound that always went straight to his heart - and groin. She jumped down, with a little help from him, and handed him the keycard. He opened the door and flipped the light switch. She walked in and took off her jacket, tossing it over the chair.

Closing the door, he took a moment to reflect on the past few years. She had been there for him, through the good times and the bad. She was the one who finally convinced him to go to rehab. She was the one who acted as a buffer between him and his friends, keeping them updated on his progress and soothing their egos when they realized that he needed her more than them. He turned back toward her and smiled. She was sitting on the edge of the bed, still as beautiful today as she was when he first saw her. She had been 21, and ready to take on the world. And she had. The best part was, she had won. And because of that, so had he. He walked to her and knelt on the floor in front of her. Wrapping his arms around her waist, he kissed her again, deep and passionately. She responded as well, lying back on the bed, pulling him with her. Outside, the rain began to fall harder, drowning out the real world. Theirs was a slow and steady pace, keeping tempo with the rain. When the storm reached its crest.

Across town, the hotel bar was full. Jeff was busy bouncing around the room, making sure everyone was having a good time. He approached the table where Mark was sitting. "Hey, man," Jeff said. "Have you checked on Angel? I sure hope her headache is better." Mark nodded. "Ain't her headache I'm worried about," Mark said. Matt approached the table. "You guys seen Hall?" he asked. "We were supposed to go over our match for tomorrow night." Mark rolled his eyes. "You won't be seeing Hall tonight, man," he said as he rose from the table. Finally, the dawn of realization struck Matt and Jeff. "You don't mean…?" they began at the same time. Mark nodded. "Yeah," he said. "One of these days she's gonna realize that he ain't right for her. One of these days, he's gonna break her heart. But until then, ain't nothing we can do about it." He drained his beer and turned to walk away. One of these days, she'd realize…..
