Chapter Six
Saving Mortals

Dave growled deep in the back of his throat. "There are days that I would like to shoot anyone that has ever written a book or filmed a movie about vampires." His brother nodded as Marcus ran a hand over his face. "Ok, this could be a problem. Dave, Sean, Glenn do you have any ideas on how to get the kid and these mortals to safety?" Jeff shuddered still getting images from the baby. "They are moving… very fast as if they are moving in a vehicle. I think one of the mortals is driving a car. Please you have to hurry."

Sean shrugged watching Jay Jay as he offered a suggestion. "With Jay Jay's help we could get the baby out and maybe the mortals if they don't completely freak out." When Marcus' attention was focused on him Jay Jay squeaked and tried to inch back, but found Sean suddenly behind him with his hands on Jay Jay's shoulders. "And just how is our little mouse going to help us save them?" Marcus asked doubtfully. "By freezing time," Sean answered reasonably making Marcus' eyebrow inch up.

Catching onto his brother's idea Dave nodded enthusiastically. "Yeah… I see. All we have to do is poof in. Jay Jay can freeze things, which will stop everything but us. We grab the kid and the mortals then poof out just after that before things unfreeze!" Glenn nodded thinking the idea was a good one being simple and as he saw without any loop holes, but watched Marcus as leader for approval.

Marcus took his time turning over the plan in his head and nodded carefully before answering. "It sounds good, but what are you going to do about the vampire?" Dave and Sean looked at each other having forgotten about that part of the issue. Unsurprisingly to Glenn and Marcus, Dave shrugged nonchalantly and said, "beat the hell out of him… what else?" Marcus' lips twitched and he shook his head as Glenn chuckled.

"And what are you going to do if he isn't some junior grade vampire?" Marcus asked reasonably. "What are you going to do if he is old and powerful?" Dave wrinkled his nose irritated. "You always ask me shit like that. I haven't lost a fight yet have I?" Marcus sighed and again shook his head before answering. "Some day you will my friend and that just may be your last day."

"Jeffrey how many mortals are we dealing with?" Marcus asked concerned at the boy's state of being as he was still connected mentally with the baby. "Two mortals," Jeffrey answered slowly getting drained from the long use of his mental powers which were not his strongest asset. "One mortal is badly wounded. If he dies the child is in danger. HE must be saved no matter what the cost."

Marcus grumbled at the added pressure but was relatively unfazed. "For now though that seems to be as good a plan as anyone. We have a baby and two mortals to contend with as well as the vampire. I suggest that Jeff get the baby given their bond as long as he is up to the task. Glenn you take the wounded mortal… we may need to… turn him in order to save his life. You have my permission if that is what is needed." Marcus studied the two brother before going further. "You two are about as unthreatening as a fucking tornado… damnit I wish Thomas was here."

As if on command Thomas and Scott came in the door holding hands and Thomas smiled. "Your wish is my command oh great leader, but if you have an injured mortal might I suggest that you let Raven take him? He was a doctor before he was turned and he has a child so he has experience in turning if it needs to be done." Marcus nodded shortly. "Done!"

"Jeff takes the baby. Raven is responsible for the injured mortal and Thomas you take the other mortal. Dave and Sean you are assigned to the vampire… try not to get killed. I am going just in case Jeff or Jay Jay have trouble. Any questions?"

When everyone shook their heads no Marcus nodded and looked at Jeffrey. "You will have to lead us little one. Are you up to it?" With difficulty Jeffrey nodded and moving his lips soundlessly said, "I am coming Gabriel," before poofing out. The others quickly joined hands and with Jay Jay following Jeffrey's essence poofed out.

When the others landed they saw Jeffrey standing in the middle of the road with a car coming at him fast. "HOLY SHIT!" Peter screamed from inside of the car and slammed on the breaks not thinking even though he knew he would never be able to stop in time. Quickly Jay Jay lifted his hands and froze everything but the vampires stopping the car inches from Jeffrey.

Marcus growled wiping the sweat off his forehead swearing he was killing the child as his first chance, but before could even speak Jeffrey had poofed himself into the car. "I am killing that kid," he muttered and Dave nodded seeing the blonde blur coming at them. "Later old man. Here comes our vampire."

Quickly Thomas and Raven poofed themselves into the car grabbing the mortals and followed Jeffrey as he poofed out. Dave and Sean took a battle stance ready to fight, but suddenly the blur stopped several feet from them. Confused for only a couple moments the two warriors shook their heads moving to attack the vampire when they were stopped harshly by Marcus. "LEAVE!" HE ordered and confused and grumbling they did so.

Standing off to one side alone Jay Jay watched the unknown blonde vampire stare at Marcus as Marcus stared at him back. "I should have known you would find him," the stranger drawled and Marcus nodded only slightly. "As I should have known that you and yours were the ones holding him," Marcus replied quietly as the stranger shrugged.

"Shoulda, coulda, woulda… ain't gonna change it now. You know we will be coming after them and if I have to I will kill you." The stranger drawled moving toward Marcus and lifting a hand touched his arm. Marcus nodded slightly staring into the other vampire's deep blue eyes and Jay Jay half wondered if he was being hypnotized. Marcus just nodded again sighing sadly. "As I will kill you if you force me. You know I will not let you have the child back."

The stranger nodded and smiled beautifully. "How is Glenn?" He asked and Marcus smiled in return. Confused Jay Jay shook his head wondering if he had hit his head at some point and didn't notice. "Glenn is good… cranky, but I am sure you aren't surprised by that."

The blonde just shook his head laughing and for the first time looked at Jay Jay. "He will like the injured mortal. When I met him I just knew that he was intended for Glenn. Tell him that I am sorry for hurting him. I wasn't thinking. It is a good thing I missed the child for he would have been shredded to ribbons. You should go. Your little Mouse is getting tired. Take care." Then without another word the stranger poofed out leaving Jay Jay with more questions than answers.

Marcus sighed seeing the confusion in Jay Jay's eyes, but simply put a large finger over his lips when the young man tried to speak. "Not now Little Mouse. He is right you are tired. I promise later I will tell you all you want to know." Then he took Jay Jay's hand and poofed them home freeing time to return to normal.
