Stepping through the curtain he stood on the stage and looked at the ring he'd be wrestling in at the biggest event of the year… Wrestlemania. Slowly he made his way down the ramp half afraid that if he rushed that he'd wake up and find out that he was still in hell. He'd spent years banished from this place thinking that he'd never get this moment back. Finally he'd been allowed back though ripped from the bowels of hell and placed back into heaven… given a second chance when he thought none existed.
Reaching the ring he ran a hand over the apron before moving to climb the steel steps and climb through the ropes. Almost reverently he ran a hand over the red covered ring ropes thinking of all the moments that he'd created here. Here he created his own legend by beating those deemed unbeatable. Here he'd proven time and again that he was truly the greatest of all time… that he WAS a legend.
Now he'd been called upon one last time to prove why he was the man. Winning or losing didn't matter tonight. He already knew that in the end his shoulders would be the ones pinned to the mat. It was how he lost that would determine his immortality. Losing badly would only prove all the naysayers right. Losing well would giver him a second chance, but losing better than anyone before him… that would prove to everyone why he was called the greatest of all time.
Nodding he moved to the middle of the ring and looked at the empty seats that would later be filled with thousands of screaming fans. For them he'd pass the torch and for himself he'd lose better than even he'd ever lost before.
Through the curtain a second man stepped and stared at the legend in the ring. He couldn't stop the bitterness that filled him. He should be standing in that ring. It should be his fans that would be cheering that night, but that wouldn't happen… not that night or ever again. His spotlight had been cut short. His time had been stolen from him before he was ready to surrender it.
The legend in the ring had created hundreds of memories, but so had he. Some of the greatest moments in wrestling had his name on them, but now he was banned from making more by doctors that didn't care and friends that didn't understand.
All he wanted was one more shot… one more moment… one more chance to pass his own torch like the legend would be ding tonight. But it would never happen… his torch would simply fizzle and fade leaving him as nothing more than a "whatever-happened-to-?".
It wasn't fair. He'd given them everything he had. All he wanted was that one last moment… and he'd get it one day. He didn't know when or how or with whom he'd have that moment, but he'd get it. He'd be damned if his torch would die forgotten and lonely.
On the floor at the corner of the stade stood a young one staring up at his hero. Never in his life did he imagine that he'd get this far and while he still had a way to go he knew that he'd get there. Nothing would stop him from making this man proud.
This hero may have been taken from his fans too soon, but he would be damned if his sacrifices would be made in vain. He'd make moments, he'd touch hearts, and he'd pass torches and every step of the way he's insure that no one forgot who made it all possible. This help would not be forgotten. His torch would NOT diminish and HE would be remembered as the greatest ever… or the young one would die trying.
Quietly she stood breathless… hardly able to believe what was within her sight. Two legends and one in the making together they made up why she was there.
Hulk Hogan was the reason she started watching wrestling.
Shawn Michaels was the reason why she loved wrestling.
Shannon Moore was the reason why she had hope for the future of wrestling.
Three heroes in one moment… it was a once in a lifetime memory.
Raising her camera she started to capture the moment knowing that no one would ever believe her if she didn't get proof, but before she took the picture she stopped. Lowering the camera she smiled and put is away.
"Thank you," she whispered them walked away.
After all the moments they had given her and would be giving her how could she rob them of the one that belonged to them.
