As he sat looking out his window, he couldn't believe that this had happened. He never thought there would be a time in his life when they were so far apart... mentally and physically. He had everything... he had the chick... he had the fans. He was considered the best in the business by some of the biggest names ever... a feat he never thought he would accomplish. Hell there was a time when he didn't even think that he was that good... But of course HE believed. HE always told him that someday he'd be on top. HE said, "stick with me baby and I will teach you everything you need to know. You have everything you need to be the best... ya just gotta believe kid."
And teach him HE had. HE taught him everything. How to incorporate himself in his character. How to interact with the fans... that they were the most important part of the business. Without them they were just a bunch of meatheads with big egos. HE taught him that you have to believe in yourself first... cause some days no one else may. Of course that wasn't true... HE always had... 'til now. HE taught him about loyalty... that without it you are nothing.... No one can believe in you... no one can trust you if you aren't loyal… too bad he forgot that lesson until it was too late.
HE also taught him about love.
HE was the first man he'd ever been with. HE was the first man he ever loved... hell who was he kidding. HE was the ONLY man he ever loved. Of course now though he'd messed that up and HE'd never love him again. Gawd, he missed HIM. He missed HIS smile and HIS laugh. He missed just simply HIS presence. He didn't feel complete without HIM there next to him. He missed holding HIM at night... they fit together perfectly as if they were made for one another. HE used to proclaim just that. That HE had been put on the earth just for him. But that was no more, too.
He had fallen into the biggest trap in wrestling... He started to believe his own press. He started believing that he was better than HIM because he was younger... because HIS body was broken and didn't work as well as it used to. He got greedy and didn't understand HIS desperation. He didn't see that HE felt like he was losing everything. Instead of supporting HIM and encouraging HIM he had been the one to put the final nails in HIS coffin. Convincing them that HE was no longer worth the effort. He forgot that without HIM there was nothing. He forgot how lonely it was without HIM. He forgot that in the blink of an eye he could be just like HIM... broken... lonely... desperate to prove he was still the best.
Life is a funny thing... Scotty always says that what comes around goes around. Just like he disserted HIM when HE couldn't go anymore... everyone else had forgotten him. Injuries are a funny thing... too bad that is what it took to make him realize what he had done to HIM. It was too late now to make things up. It was too late now to get HIM back.
"Jesus, Shawn, I'm sorry, baby," Hunter cried.
It was lonely being at the top... and even lonelier at the bottom.
