"Hey Jay, where you going?" Adam hollered down the hallway after his best friend, Jason Reso.
"Nowhere special, why?' Jay asked, smiling at Adam as he hurriedly caught up to him.
"I was just thinking we could go out and catch something to eat together, if you're not busy." Adam responded, smiling down at Jay,
"Well, we could. Or we could go back to my hotel room and order something from room service and maybe watch a movie or something." Jay replied, smiling back up into Adam's wolfish grin. That grin always seemed to make it hard for Jason to breathe; he became so caught up in it, even after all this time.
"Or we could go back to my room, take the phone off the hook, and screw like mad rabbits." Adam murmured, still grinning down at Jay, barely realizing he had spoken that thought out loud.
"Uhm, Adam, what did you just say?" Jay asked, confused, positive that he had just misheard what Adam had just said. There was no way his best friend had just offered what he thought he had offered.
"I said we could go back to my room do that....if we go to your room, we're right next to Ric, and you know how loud he can get." Adam said, hoping Jay would believe that, and not call him on that slip of the tongue.
"Uh, sure...ok. Let me get my stuff together. You mind if I take a shower in your room? I don't really want to take one here....shower's too crowded." Jay asked.
"Hey, Jay?" Adam asked, an hour later, as Jay was walking out of the bathroom, a towel wrapped around his hips.
"Yeah?" Jay replied, glancing over at Adam, who was setting their dinner up at the small table in the room.
"Can I ask you a question?" Adam asked, mouth going dry. He used to be used to this, he knew he was. Once upon a time, he had thought nothing of Jay walking around his room practically naked. Hell, there was a time when he and Jay had shared showers, shared hotel rooms, hell, shared a bed on the few times they had been fortunate enough to be able to afford a single hotel room. Why was it awkward now?
"Sure. Hey, can I borrow a pair of sweats? I forgot to throw any in here." Jay said, looking through his bag.
"Uh, yeah." Adam said, throwing a pair of sweats to Jay from his own bag. "I was just wondering....why do we have separate rooms? I mean, we usually stay in the same room, or at least we used to, before I went out, and it seems like we're starting to again, and it seems like such a waste to..."
"Adam, you're rambling." Jay cut him off, turning to look at Adam. "What are you trying to say?"
"I love you!" Adam said.
"I love you, too. You're my best friend." Jay replied, looking up at Adam quizzically. Wandering over to him, Jay took Adam's hand into his own and pulled him into a hug. "You're upset about the divorce, aren't you?"
"Well," Adam started, wondering if he should let Jay believe that was what was wrong, deciding to take a big gamble, and finally put himself out of his misery, Adam continued. "I'm not happy about it, but it was for the best. I wasn't in love with her. I'm in love with you."
Adam was startled to feel tears on his chest after that declaration and looked down at Jay, only to have his mouth ravaged by that selfsame man seconds later.
(Next night, after a house show)
"Hey, Adam, Jay, where are you guys going tonight?" Chris asked, looking at the pair hopefully.
"Nowhere special." They replied in unison, giggling.
