Sean laid in his bed.... no wait, it was their bed. The bed they'd shared for so many years. The light was on and so was the TV. Just two little distractions Sean had found that actually worked. As long as he stayed away from sad, sappy movies his mind wasn't engulfed with thoughts of Dave. As long as he was engrossed in some three a.m. movie, he didn't have to think about the long nights of love making, and talking, and cuddling, and dreaming about their futures. Hell, as far as he was concerned his future walked out the door a few long months back. Now, all Sean had to hold onto was the pillow that Dave used to rest his head on. It's stopped smelling like him after about a week of Sean sleeping with it, but he didn't care. He still laid there, watching some random movie, curled up with it like it was some kind of lifeline. And to Sean it was.
The word sleep had long since left Sean's vocabulary. He'd found out that you can survive on two hours sleep a night, it you drink enough caffeine, and smoke enough cigarettes. Yeah, Sean O'Haire had picked up a lot of bad habits since the night that The Animal Batista walked out of his life. Smoking was the least of them, though. He threw himself into his work. So much so, that he'd lost his job. Sean developed a habit of letting all his anger out in his matches. He couldn't seem to turn the switch in his brain off that said, 'I just want someone to hurt as much as me', and that's exactly what he had been doing. Hurting people. His boss let him go, stating that he needed to go to anger management, and that if he got help he would take him back. At this point, though, Sean couldn't care less if he had a job or not. All he wanted was his Dave back.
Sean never dreamed in a million years that Dave would actually leave him. He'd thought he'd given Dave everything he needed. His must have miscalculated the needs of his lover, though, because now he was gone. Sean had given Dave unconditional love, support, encouragement, praise, and that wasn't to mention the great sex. Sean just hadn't calculated that his lover's needs would change as he got bigger and bigger in the sport of professional wrestling. Sean didn't count on the fact that, once they gave Dave the World Heavyweight Title, that everyone would be giving him those things. Everyone loved Dave, supported him, encouraged him, praised him, and generally put him on a pedestal. Suddenly, the way Sean treated him wasn't all that special anymore. Looking back Sean realized this and knew he should have been the one to keep Dave grounded in reality, but he didn't. Apparently that job was already taken by one Mr. Heartbreak Kid Shawn Michaels.
You see Shawn had already been where Dave was at, so he didn't fawn over Dave like everyone else did. He was the one that was giving him the advice, and keeping his head out of the clouds. That's why Dave was sleeping in Shawn's bed right now instead of Sean's. Hey at least Dave didn't have to worry about calling the wrong name out in bed right? That thought always infuriated Sean. It always got him to wondering how long Dave and old HBK had been together. Dave didn't show much remorse when he walked out the door that night, so Sean figured that they'd been together a while now.
The movie that Sean was watching ended, and he drifted off to sleep the same way he had every night for the last couple of months. Tears slowly flowing down his cheeks, staining the pillow that Dave used to rest his head on. Sean knew he wouldn't sleep long, and what sleep he did get would be haunted with dreams of a love that once was.
Sure enough, two hours and fifteen minutes later Sean's eyes fluttered open. He quickly adjusted to the sunlight that was seeping through the heavy curtains of his room and rolled out of bed. He knew this was going to be a bad day, because his cheeks were still wet with the tears he'd cried in his sleep. Slowly he went through the motions of his morning rituals, the occasional tear streaming down his face in the process. After his breakfast he had a quick shower and prepared to go to the gym. This was really the only thing that Sean had to look forward to in his life right now. Besides, a strenuous workout always made him feel better.
Sean's stomach lurched and his heart sank when he walked into the gym today, though. There he was, The Heartbreak Kid, himself. Guess he decided he'd better start working out more if he was going to keep a guy like Dave Batista. Sean went about his daily workout, not being able to keep his eyes off HBK. The mere sight of the man made him blind with fury. Finally he couldn't take it anymore. He walked right up Shawn and said, "I want him back, and I'm going to get him back."
"And what makes you think that he wants you back?" Shawn said, feeling a little too cocky.
Sean looked around the gym, and his eyes finally fell upon his strength. Dave had been standing off to the side watching the entire scene go down, and when Sean saw him their eyes locked. The lust in Dave's eyes could've been read from across the room, and it was, by one Sean O'Haire. "Maybe because you're man has been checking me out the entire time I've been in here." Sean said, walking towards Dave to claim his prize. Vowing that if it took every shred of pride or dignity he had, that Dave would be his again.
