Jensen is standing at the kitchen sink, staring out the window into the L.A. evening, when he hears Jared's keys in the door. Smiling, he puts a clean bottle on the rack to dry and picks up Samantha's favorite bottle, the one with fire engines and Dalmatians on it to wash. He hears Jared quietly make his way through the house, knowing it is well past the twin's bed time. Jensen had got them down about a half an hour ago, while Jared was off at a meeting with his agent and manager.
Chad has a new show starting on CBS that fall and asked Jared to do a guest spot on it, for at least three episodes. Jared was thinking about doing it, but only because it was Chad. When Jared asked for his husband's opinion, Jensen had read the script Chad had sent over and, yeah, while he hated the idea of either of them working too much while the babies were so little, it had seemed like a part Jared could shine in. So Jensen told him to go.
Jensen hears Jared enter the kitchen, footsteps hesitant. He continues to wash the bottles, amazed at how two little people could need so much stuff on a day to day basis. Listening as Jared fidgets behind him, Jensen smiles.
"How'd the meeting go, Jare?" he asks without turning around.
Jared clears his throat, fidgets some more. "I, uh," Jared pauses to clear his throat again. "Jen, I, um. I bought a ranch."
It takes Jensen a minute and he drops the newly washed bottle back into the soapy water as he turns, shocked. "Wait. What?"
Jared takes a step forward, hand held in front of him, palm facing Jensen, trying to placate. "It's in Montana. I kinda just... went by my real estate agent's office after the meeting with my manager and um. Bought it. I don't know what came over me. I just... I had to buy it." He takes a breath and lowers his gaze, staring intently at the tiled floor between his bare feet. "You're mad, aren't you?"
Jensen sits the sponge he'd been using down and crosses his arms across his chest, soapy wet hands getting his tee shirt damp. "Well, I'm shocked, Jare. And you really should've talked to me first, man. We're a team, ya know? But," Jensen paused, a tiny smile creeping across his lips, unable to stay upset at Jared. "Tell me. Does it have a pool? Those kids of yours need to learn how to swim someday."
Jared looks up and sees Jensen smiling and goes to him, wrapping him in a bear hug. "Sorry. I just had to, Jen. You'll understand when you see it. It's us. I knew it instantly." Jensen smiles against Jared's chest, knowing without a doubt Jared will turn out to be right, as usual. Kid had good instincts.
Jared pulls back to look into Jensen's face. "We're gonna have a real home. You, me and our babies."
Jensen smiles even wider and grabs the front of Jared's polo shirt. "C'mere," he mumbles, pressing his lips against Jared's in a soft, slow, wet kiss. Jared hums into Jen's mouth and hooks his fingers in the back pockets of Jensen's jeans. Jen has his arms wrapped around Jared's waist and they sway a little as they kiss, messy and deep, in the middle of the kitchen.
Jensen is about to suggest they head back to the bedroom when he hears T.R. fussing over the baby monitor. He reluctantly pulls back from Jared's lips and smiles wryly. "Kid's got impeccable timing." He smacks Jared's ass as he goes to head down the hallway to the nursery. "How I know he's all mine."
Jared's short bark of laughter follows him and Jensen keeps smiling, knowing that it didn't matter where they lived. As long as they loved each other, they had a home.
